Serial Number 5997. Plate has same serial number as the "Brandywine Battlefield" item currently under auction. Direct from the booklet included with the plate. "Along the Brandywine" is the first work in silver created by any member of the Wyeth family. It is the first in a series of five annual silver collectors plates which the artist plans to design. In this masterwork, the special beauty of silver actually becomes part of James Wyeth's design. The rich tone of the precious metal complements the finely detailed etching, while the brilliant reflectivity of silver helps capture the daylight which filters through the trees and is mirrored in the waters of the Brandywine River. Overall, a sense of timeless tranquility pervades this remarkable landscape. Here, solitude is not loneliness. Man is part of nature, yet separate and secure in his own identity. James Wyeth has created a masterpiece with a sense of unity and peace that is altogether his own.
