1974 FRANKLIN MINT OFFICIAL BICENTENNIAL PLATE STERLING SILVER & GOLD – NEW Picture and Description:
Franklin Mint Bicentennial Commemorative Plate Solid Sterling Silver and 24kt Gold You are bidding on a Vintage Franklin Mint Official Bicentennial Commemorative Plate issued by the Bicentennial Council of the Thirteen Original States. Created by the Franklin Mint, this plate is in Excellent condition. It measures 8" diameter and is 236 grams total weight. This is the first series produced by the Franklin Mint which combines gold on sterling and gold inlay. The plate is sterling silver. The sculptured scene in the center is 24kt gold electroplate on sterling. This plate is the second in the series, dated 1974, and portrays American patriot John Adams defending the cause of independence before the Continental Congress. the legend around the rim (which states: "...all that I hope for in this life, I stake on our cause!") is etched and inlaid with 24kt gold. Adams spoke with such conviction that in the final tally the question of independence passed without a single dissenting vote. On the back of the plate is a sterling silver medallion which bears the plate's serial number (2451). This number also appears on the accompanying Certificate of Authenticity. The plate comes in a decorated cover "library slipcase", held shut by a magnetic closure. It is designed for convenient bookshelf storage or shelf display, and is secured for shipping by a chipboard and foam disc, lined in crushed velvet. Contains 7.086 troy ounces of pure silver. Calculations: Plate weights 8.4 ounces (regular ounces AKA avoirdupois onces) X .925 (sterling silver contents of plate) X .912 (conversion of regular ounces to troy ounces) equal 7.086 troy ounces of pure silver.
